My idea is in two options: 1: tie dye the uniform without having a base dye, eg green and brown splotches over the grey of UCP . I'd add a couple of cups of white vinegar to 5 gal of water, and a couple packets of dye. Wet-down the items ahead of time. Clean the items if dirty, and rinse well.
