I got it to that point and then rounded over the ends of the foam to create a flared port which eliminated the chuffing. The end result is the cab sounds tighter now but still has plenty of bass. It happens when more air is attempting to be pushed in and out of the port than the port can handle. It can sound like a farting noise. It can happen on a lot of subs, so it isn't a deal breaker for me, it depends on how easily it can be made to chuff. What sub are you considering?

As explained before as the area of a port is increased, the port has to lengthen to keep the box tuning frequency the same. By the way it is not a good idea to put subs in another cabinet. They should be free standing.
